
From the Adams County Press, Saturday February 24, 1912, Page 1 George JEFFERSON was born near St. Mary's, Perth county, Canada, July 11, 1848. He came with his parents to Adams county, Wis., when six years of age and resided in the neighborhood where they first located. Dec. 3rd, 1871, he was united in marriage to Miss Leila Kane. They took up their residence in the town of Monrow and during their forty years of life together lived on the farm where they first settled. They were blessed with four daughters, one of whom died in infancy. Those living are: Mrs. Ina DAWES, Mrs. Lena DAWES and Miss Alice JEFFERSON. Deceased leaves besides these children and his widow, two brothers, two sisters and numerous other relatives to mourn his departure. He had suffered with ill health for many years and for the two months preceding his death he suffered intensely. He passed away at 2:30 a.m. Feb. 15th, 1912. Mr. Jefferson was a kind and affectionate husband and father. As a neighbor he was courteous and obliging, and as a friend, true and unwavering. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Monroe Center church and interment was made in the cemetery at that place. Rev. S. S. Forrest of Hancock officated and the Barnum Choir sang. A large concourse of friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. The church was filled and some were obliged to remain outside for lack of room.
