SOUTH SOCIETY OF BAPTISTS
Established 1836
Later became First Baptist Church 1841
Locations:
1836 - First Avenue & Washington St.
1841 - Hall on Walkers Point
1844 - West Water St. north of the Oneida Street bridge
1844 - Northeast corner of West Water St. and Spring St. (where Chapmans store eventually built
1844 - purchased lot on Southeast corner of Milwaukee & Wisconsin Sts and built church edifice
1863 - disbanded with most members joining West Baptist Church
1836 - Elder Griffin - pastor
1838 - Rev. Mathews
Group disbanded
1841 - reorganized as First Baptist Church under Rev. Peter Conrad
1843 - Rev. Stickney

1872 - purchased building of the Trinity Evangelical Society and moved it
from Sixth & Sherman St. to the present location (1881)
of the Church but no address provided.

1855 - rented hall on corner of Chestnut & Third Sts.
1859 - purchased lot on Galena St between Ninth & Tenth Sts. and rebuilt
there and altered for Church purposes.
1864 - sold old lot & building after purchasing lot on Seventh & Harmon Sts.
where they erected their new church
