Holy Innocents Cemetery
Pine Lake, Merton Township
Waukesha County Wisconsin
Location
This cemetery is located on the west side of Highway C, approximately 1 1/2 miles north of Nashotah, at the western limits of the Village of Chenequa, Section 31, Merton Township.
History
This is an active cemetery established March 3, 1844, with the founding of the Scandinavian Parish, Pine Lake. In 1850 the congregation split. One group formed St. John's English Lutheran Church, Stone Bank. This church took the church records and register.
The other part of the congregation remained at the original log church and cemetery grounds. In 1864 this part became known as Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, Nashotah. The Church cemetery was not used again until 1895. In 1895, the last survivor of the original Scandinavian Parish legally transferred the land to Holy Innocents. In 1962 Holy Innocents merged with Grace-Holy Innocents Episcopal. In 1975, the name was changed to St. Anskar's Church.
Records
There are cemetery records 1895 to date. The records are the most complete after 1930. There is a chart of the cemetery and records are available to the public by appointment only. Contact:

This is a transcription of the earliest record book, kept at St. John's Church, Stone Bank. It includes deaths and burials, 1843-1858.
Transcriptions
There are many burials not listed.
Church Burial Records Transcribed From: LDS film # 1392601 by Judy B. (see contributors page). Additional information added from tombstone photographs taken by Larry and Linda Kopet
Records are from about 1886 and some are very hard to read. ---- leaving out letters I can't read
(?) is my best guess.
The early years are VERY hard to read. It appears the record was damaged so the film didn't come out very clear. Plus, whoever recorded it had the worst handwriting!!!
Typically burial is 1-3 days after death.
