Pine Lake Early Settlers

The early colony of Pine Lake included Swedish, Norwegian, and 1 Danish settler. Four Swedish men all strangers, arrived at the same time in the oak grove near Pine Lake in July 1842. Of the four men, only two remined in the colony. Groth and Gustaf Unonius were the other two, but they moved away by 1846.

Settled for a spell in Cincinnati, Ohio and learned the shoemaking trade. Died: December 12, 1845 (2 years after arriving)

Adolph Fredrik St. Cyr von Lindsfelt
(name Anglicized to St. Sure upon arrival) Age at Arrival: 36 (born of Swedish nobility in 1806) Residence in old country: Sweden Occupation in old country: Former Swedish Army Officer, appointed Chamberlain to the Court while in his 20s Status: married Children: 5 children arrived with 2 servants to escape creditors in Sweden In 1847, moved to Chicago, his wife and most of the children returned to Sweden. Adolph, took up the medical trade and entered Rush Medical School. By 1850, he had a successful practice in Sheboygan. Served during the Civil War as a surgeon of the 15th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry and died a prominent doctor in Sheboygan, at seventy. His granddaughter, Miss Violet St. Sure died at the age of eighty in Sheboygan, in 1968.
