CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS passenger-carrying whaleback June 30th, 1917 - Constructed in 1893, the Christopher Columbus was the only passenger-carrying whaleback steamer ever built. Eighteen passengers died when the ship hit a water tower on the bank of the Milwaukee River on June 30th, 1917.

CUMBERLAND brig, wood, 2-mast 1859, Oct 19 none Run into by the schooner CURLEW, while seeking shelter near the S. Pier in Milwaukee. Went out of control and crashed into the pier, where she quickly broke up.

DREDGE #906 steek dredge barge, nonself-propelled May 23, 1956 9 of at least 10 Capsized and sank while in tow of tug E. JAMES FUSIK. The two were trying to beat a storm to port. Wreck is 30' to 55' deep.

IDA H. LEE propeller steam tug, wood 1874, Apr 23 1 Rammed from behind by the schooner IDA, which she was towing. She ran afoul of her own towline. She sank quicky, trapping her engineer below.

LAURINA schooner, wood 1893, Apr 20 none She drove into shallow water near the Milwaukee breakwater. She was sheltering herself when the breakwater gave way and allowed full force of waves to strike her. She dragged her anchors and went ashore. Lifesaving Service rescued her crew.

RELIABLE propeller, wood, sandsucker 1913, Aug 16 none She capsized and sank due to a shift of her cargo in a gale. Her crew had fought rising water in her hold for many hours, but when she finally started to list, the end came in just minutes. Her boiler exploded as she sank, blasting her to pieces.
