St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery

Ottawa Township
Waukesha County Wisconsin Genealogy

Location

This active Catholic cemetery is located on the west side of Highway Z, 3 miles southwest of the village of Dousman, Section 8, Ottawa Township. It is located behind St. Bruno's Church.

History

The first cemetery for St. Bruno's was established in 1850 on the Boniface Link farm in the Northwest 1/4 of Section 8. In 1854 the remains of 26 persons were removed and placed in a new cemetery site down the road on land donated by Lawrence Link in the Northwest 1/4 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 8.

The early parishioners had no church and Mass was said in various homes in the area. The old cemetery site was planned to be a church site. Lawrence also donated the land the original church stood on. His son and daughter-in-law were the first couple married in the church.

The old cemetery site was planned to be a church site but was changed. The cemetery was also moved again. It is administered by St. Bruno Cemetery Association.

Records

There are cemetery records available 1850 to date. There is a chart of the cemetery and the records are available to the public for research. Mail requests will not be answered. Contact:

The church is located at 246 West Ottawa Avenue, Dousman. Phone: 262-985-2332 (rectory).

At the Waukesha County Museum there are transcriptions from the tombstones 1844-1985, copied in September, 1985.

Transcriptions
