Melendy's Prairie Cemetery
Eagle Township, Waukesha County, Wisconsin
Location
The cemetery is located near the Jefferson-Waukesha County line on Highway ZZ. Section 7, Eagle Township. It is across the road from the farm which was originally the home of Daniel F. Melendy (1810-1887), the founder of Melendy's Prairie.
History
This active cemetery was established about 1847. It is believed that three persons were laid to rest in the corner of the Bolser farm in the early days. Mrs. Bolser and her two sons. An infant brother of Walter Carlin was also buried near the buildings of their farm.
Mr. Ebenezer Fisk Weld gave the land for the cemetery and is believed to have offered land for the church. Most of the deceased of the Melendy's Prairie area are now laid to rest in this cemetery.
This cemetery is administered by the Melendy Prairie Cemetery Association.
