Oak Hill Cemetery
Brookfield, Brookfield Township, Waukesha County, Wisconsin

Location

This active cemetery is located on the east side of North Brookfield Road, 1/2 mile south of Capitol Drive, Section 9, Brookfield Township. It is next to Brookfield Academy.

History

Oak Hill Cemetery was established in 1851. The Brookfield Cemetery Association govered both Oak Hill and Dixon/Pioneer Cemetery until April 15, 1905. On that date Pioneer Cemetery separated from the Associatoin. Thereafter, the organization was calle the Oak Hill Cemetery Association.

The Waukesha County Historical Society erected a historic marker for Oak Hill Cemetery in 1971. Revolutionary War veteran Nathan Hatch is buried at Oak Hill.

The sign at the entrance of the cemetery reads:
Oak Hill Cemetery
Brookfield
Burial Place of Yankee, English, and German Settlers.
Part of Pioneer Joseph Ewbank land grant.
Noted Grave: Nathan Hatch. Revolutionary War soldier who came west with
sons Hiram and Edmund in 1840s. Remains possibly moved from earlier
family burial ground.
Operated by Brookfield Cemetery Association from 1851; by Oak Hill
Cemetery Association from 1905.

Records

There are cemetery records 1851-date. The records are available at anytime to the public for research and there is a chart of the cemetery. Mail requests will be answered at no charge. Contact:

These are photocopies of the original record book which served Oak Hill Cemetery and Dixon/Pioneer Cemetery. Includes the deed, 19 February 1851, for the purchase of cemetery land, minutes of the meetings and reports of the Association and some records of cemetery lots sold. After the split in 1905., there are some minutes and lot records for Oak Hill.

Transcriptions
