LOOKING FOR A CEMETERY SITE.
Lutherans Must Have a New Place of Burial
Representatives of the Lutheran churches of the north and west sides met in St. Matthew's church last evening and appointed following committee to investigate and report on the advisability of purchasing the Lindwurm farm for a cemetery site: J. Fischer, August Kringel, August Brandt, August Grueneberg, Emil Wegner, Fred Kipp, Julius Nerke, August Sonnemann, A. Baebenroth, Laabs and F. Selle. The Lindwurm farm comprises 160 acres and G. Plueschke, a real estate agent, offered it at #1,350 per acre. Forty acres of the remaining 120 acres only seventy-three acres are immediately available for cemetery purposes. The price demanded for the seventy-three acres is $109,500. Another meeting will be held next Wednesday evening to take further steps in the matter of securing a suitable cemetery site.
In another article it stated that 13 other properties were offered for purposes of the cemetery.

Krause's Farm for A Cemetery
Lutherans Decide Where They Will Bury their Dead.
Krause's farm, on the Blue Mound road will be the burying place hearafter of most of the Lutherans of Milwaukee, and probably of a good many of those who live now in the suburbs and who desire their corpses to be well bestowed after death. At a meeting yesterday of the Lutheran Bethlehem congregation it was decided to purchse the Krause farm for cemetery purposes. The price of the farm is $21,000 and the Lutherans paid $6,000 upon it, the rest to be paid in installments. The farm is three miles from the city. The Lutheran Bethlehem congregation will request the English Lutheran congregation of Milwaukee and the Lutherans of Tess Corners, North Greenfield and Wauwatosa to join them in purchasing the Krause farm. This will allow the burial of all their dead in the now cemetery on terms of equality.
From History of Milwaukee, 1881
Union Cemetery is situated on the Cedarburg plank road, the line between Milwaukee City and Town dividing the grounds. The association was organized January 11, 1865, and for two years was managed by a board of trustees chosen by the two congregations of Grace and St. John's churches. The grounds consist of forty-one acres, but on May 24 the Board of Trustees purchased ten acres from an incorporated body consisting of members of the Trinity congregation. The association is now managed by a board of nine trustees, consisting of three members each from each of the three congregations.
The grounds were selected and purchased by Rev. Mulhauser, J.H. Inbusch, Nic. Schoof, Charles Kieckhefer and Henry Dube. The original officers were: President, Charles Kieckhefer; Secretary, Nic. Shoof; Treasurer, John Inbusch. The present officers (1880) are: George Brumder, Manager; Charles Kieckhefer, President; F. Richter, Secretary; John Inbusch, Treasurer. The cemetery is maintained by the proceeds from the sale of lots. The cost of the grounds, buildings, and improvements is estimated at $20,000. The first person interred in the cemetery was Maria Heitz, June 11, 1865, and the total number of interments from June, 1867, to June, 1880, 9,863. They have recently purchased twenty-four acres, paying $13,700.
