This active Catholic cemetery is located on the north side of East Broadway, just west of the intersection with Highway A, in the city of Waukesha, Section 1, Waukesha Township.

History

The St. Joseph congregation was organized in 1842 and a stone church was built in 1847. The cemetery was established in 1846.

Records

The cemetery records 1930-date are complete. Records before 1930 are sketchy and are mostly information taken from tombstones. St. Joseph's church records have further information on deaths, but the records do not show where people are buried.

There is a chart of the cemetery and church death/burial records are available 1867-date. Mail requests will be answered at no charge. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your request.

The cemetery records are available to the public for research, Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m.-12 Noon, with the Director of the Cemetery. Other times by appointment with the director. For appointment contact the cemetery office, 262-547-4927 if no answer call the Rectory, 262-542-2589.

At the Waukesha County Museum there are transcriptions from the tombstones with information from the church records and the Waukesha County Register of Deeds records, 1846-1936. Also a transcript of the church death/burial records, 1867-1883.
