William Bramwell Sizer, born September 3, 1858. Died March 10, 1916. See also his biography page

The Sizer family traces its history back to French Hugenenot days. During the religious war in France, many of the Protestants left the country to settle in other parts of Europe and in America. One Antonio De Sousa, upon arriving in Connecticut changed his name to SIZER.

Bramwell grew to manhood in the town of Saukville, Wisconsin where his grandfather Lemuel Sizer had located in 1846, and where Grandfather John Maechtle was first employed in 1849. Early in life Bramwell affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which his family were staunch supporters and of which he remained an active member to the end of his life.

His love for music prompted him at the age of 17 to purchase a tuning from and a Rosecrans Lightening Music Reader. In a short time he had taught his brother and sisters to read music and sing in four parts. In 1887 he went to Milwaukee to work with the Kunkel Furniture Company. Two years later he was accepted on the Milwaukee Police Force, in which capacity he remained for 23 years.

These diaries are a mixture of work and family affairs of William Bramwell Sizer. The diaries give a pretty good view of life in the years involved. The diaries were given to me for presentation on this site by family members see contributors page.

Here is a key to the names and places mentioned in the diaries.
